Spotlight on women working in male-dominated industries by Danai Ratisai and Linda Mhende-Chitowa

On International Women’s Day 2023, we were honoured to talk to 4 women who have pursued careers in male-dominated industries. Join Danai Ratisai and Linda Mhende-Chitowa (Girl Power Effect members) who converse with Victory Mhungu, Sindiswa Moyo, Sekai Musoki and Theresa Nyasha Mukoyi as they share their experiences and challenges on how women can and should continue to strive to achieve their goals to work anywhere in the industry and world.

Victory Mhungu


Victory joined Intel in 2018 as strategic planning intern and transitioned in 2019 to a process engineer in Ocotillo Technology Fabrication. She had prior experience in Zimbabwe with multinationals in production management and program management for Johnson and Johnson, Unilever and IBM as well as Multichoice Satellite Systems. She recently joined the Quality Assurance Team as cleanroom program manager. Her responsibilities include maintaining and continuously improving Cleanroom performance, implement preventive actions to minimize Foreign Material (FM) related issues, provide Excursion support and investigation, drive down equipment assists per Million units and Process Control System triggers.


Victory holds diploma in process engineering from Harare Polytechnic in Zimbabwe and a BSC in chemical engineering from ASU. She is currently studying towards a masters in engineering management at ASU.


Victory enjoys traveling to exotic places on family vacations, hiking, working out in the gym, creating and sharing new cooking recipes with her family and getting lost in a good book. Interesting fact: she has seen two of the seven natural wonders of the world (Victoria Falls, Grand Canyon). She plans to travel the world to see them all!


Sindisiwa Moyo


Sindiswa Moyo moved from Ottawa to Toronto to pursue a career in the public sector. Her journey started at Metrolinx, a Government of Ontario transit agency. Working in an engineering field and a predominantly male dominated industry, Sindiswa was motivated and inspired to acquire a Project Management Professional designation (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI) and a Master’s in Public Policy, Administration and Law (MPPAL).

At Metrolinx Sindiswa progressed through a few positions, the most recent was as Manager & Senior Advisor to the Chief Planning Officer, in the Office of the President & CEO. Within this role, Sindiswa was responsible for the overall operations of the Executive Office, working closely with executive-level staff.

Her portfolio also included files and projects for the Office of the Premier and Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO).


Sekai Musoki


Sekai is a Civil Engineer and Women in Mining Canada Research Lead whose passion and dedication for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the mining industry has been a driving force in her career. Her current position as the Field Engineering Systems Lead for the Jansen Mine Site in Saskatchewan has allowed her to work closely with BHP to achieve their construction digital strategy, cementing her reputation as a forward-thinking and innovative leader in the industry.


But Sekai's contributions don't stop there. As the head of a research working group, she is committed to improving the availability and quality of research in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion in mining. Her work in this area is not only changing the face of the industry, but also making it a more inclusive and welcoming space for underrepresented groups.


Born and raised in a small mining town in Zimbabwe, Sekai's upbringing has played a significant role in shaping her career aspirations. Her determination and hard work have allowed her to break barriers and become a trailblazer for future generations of women in STEM. With her exceptional skills and unwavering commitment to creating a better future for all, Sekai is a true inspiration and a driving force for positive change in the mining industry.


Theresa Nyasha Mukoyi


Theresa Nyasha Mukoyi was born and raised in Zimbabwe and moved to Canada in 2001 with her mother. After 3 years her mother moved back to Zimbabwe and she instantly became an adult who has been taking care of herself till now.


Theresa has built a long foundation in the Insurance world. She is a Vice President at Marsh Canada Limited in the Commercial Practice in Toronto. She has 13+ years in Commercial Insurance expertise with a specialty focus on Professional Liability or Errors and Omissions.


She is responsible for the management of several large-scale programs including acting as the Primary client contact for these accounts. She oversees programs for Accountants, Lawyers, Mediators & Arbitrators and Financial Advisors. Her role includes but is not limited to assessing risks, goals and coverage requirements and then to work with insurance companies to create or obtain the policies needed by her clients.

In her spare time, Theresa enjoys traveling, cooking and being outdoors. Having memorable and fun experiences with family and friends has always been a priority of hers.
